Tasting: Potluck Sweet Malbec

Name: Potluck Sweet Malbec
Variety: Malbec
Region: Mendoza
Country: Argentina
Year: 2010
Price: $7.95

Winery review: Deep red brilliant with violet hints. Complex, fruity, with predominant red fruits. Easy to drink, round with persistent sweetness, very well balanced with sweet tannins.

My review: I picked this bottle up after finding out that the Ruta 22 was sold out at the Vintage Cellar, and I am sure am I glad I did! The nose on the Potluck Sweet Malbec is SUPER jammy. Flavor wise, it is fruity with floral notes- particularly rosehips. After trying the wine alone, I moved on to having it with my dinner. The malbec seemed much sweeter when paired with the meat and I detected a maple flavor (which is something I have not come across in wine before). Excellent wine- will definitely re-purchase!

Food:  Venison steak and mashed cauliflower
